I find is incredible how much women's college basketball grew in the last 10 years. Ever since the WNBA started the women's college league became huge. This is because of coaches like Pat Summit, Geno Auriemma, Gail Goestenkors, Sylvia Hatchell and Pokey Chatman. These coaches coached great players throughout these years that changed the game completely. Some of the key player were Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Irvoy Latta, Sylvia Fowles, Lindsay Harding and Alison Bales.
Another reason why women's college basketball changed completely is because of Candace Parker and Sylvia Fowles. Candace Parker was recruited by University of Tennessee. When she was a senior in high school she was asked to play in the McDonald's High School All-American games. She also took part in the dunking contest. She made history by being the first women to win the dunk contest against five guys. Accomplishing that is huge in women sports. Beating guys in a dunking contest! Ten years ago that would have been unheard of! But now its becoming so popular. Sylvia Fowles also is another current player that could dunk in the women's league. The other day i was watching her on tv play verus Rutger's. They were playing at Rutgers. She threw down a dunk and missed it. Even thought she missed it everyone in the stands wearing LSU shirts and Rutger shirts gave her a standing ovation. That just shows how much respect people show toward women sports today! Its amazing!
